Today is a day that many celebrate as Easter because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The resurrection of Jesus is an important event in history, but it is also important in the lives of believers who have experienced the likeness of the resurrection through baptism.
Romans 6:3-4 – “Have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined him in his death? For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.”
This event is important because the resurrection frees us from the power of sin and gives us access to a new and greater power. We bury our old lives and are raised to live a new life in Christ.
The cross demonstrated the love of God and the resurrection demonstrated the power of God.
Paul expresses in Philippians 3:10a, “I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead.” The Greek word for power is dunamis, from which we get the English word dynamite. Paul is saying that he wants to experience the miraculous dynamite of God that was demonstrated at the resurrection. This is a power greater than any power known to man. This power can do for us what we cannot do for ourselves. In our broken world, we see people that are enslaved by the power of sin. God gives a solution for slavery by giving us the same power through the Spirit at our new birth. That Spirit is God’s mighty power to destroy the strongholds of sin and he gives freely to all who surrender the control of their will and lives. Lord, help us become a people who live out the resurrection in our lives by demonstrating your love to the world.
