This past week, my home congregation, Impact Church of Christ, came up to Fort Worth with a group of high schoolers, with the goal of helping out whoever needed help in whatever way they could. While they were here I decided to interview some of them to find out if they noticed any differences between Southside and Impact and what their favorite activity was. I want to share with you some of the responses that they gave me.
Kaylyas, 16 – “I noticed how much space there is at Southside. At Impact we are packed in, but here it’s so spacious and better A/C. I also noticed they had a deaf class which I thought was amazing.”
Frida, 16 – “I enjoyed going to Lakewood Village because we were able to help out a community that usually is neglected by people. I talked to this lady and she told us how her family and her daughter don’t talk to her that much. So being able to give her the attention and the human interaction that people normally need felt good. Because you think ‘I hope when I get to that age someone is there for me’.”
Naftali, 16 – “I enjoyed working for people, because if you think about it, you’re not working for you so it’s not about you, and that motivates you because a lot of people can’t do stuff we did for them. So it’s good that we’re making an impact because our name is Impact”
Several of the teens who were here last year were sad that they did not have the opportunity to do VBS this year, but regardless we found ways to enjoy our time together by helping those in need. Speaking with the teens I saw how willing they were to help and while some complained about the heat we still worked through it.
I think it’s amazing that within the last 2 years Impact and Southside have developed a partnership between the high school group coming to Fort Worth and the Southside youth group coming to Houston. I pray that we can continue this partnership and reach out to other churches as well.
