Reflections on the Spiritual Disciplines Retreat

By October 11, 2018No Comments
Two weeks ago, we had our first Spiritual Disciplines Retreat for Adults, and I want to share some of my reflections of how I saw God at work:

1) God brought together an amazing group to experience the weekend
together. There were young and old. There were people that grew up in the church and those that came to Christ later in life. There were single people, married people without their spouse, and married couples. We had people from the young adult class, fellowship class, the catcher’s class, the peace class, and the Hope class.  It was a diverse group of people that wouldn’t often be together but who God brought together for a purpose.  The sharing was authentic and confessional and each person’s presence was a blessing to the rest of the group.

2) God was faithful to his promise that as we draw near to Him, He draws near to us (James 4:8).  We spent time in solitude in prayer and with Scripture.  And each time as we came back together to process our experience, it was
evident that we didn’t just spend time talking to God or learning about God, we
communed with God and listened for His voice.

3) God confirmed our belief that we are in need of more “Sabbath” rhythms.  We are a busy people.  We fill our days with a lot of good activities: ministry, family events, work, etc… But Jesus showed us that we must take time to break away from those good activities to commune with God and to get renewed by His presence.  The rhythms of solitude and rest help us energize our Spirit for the good opportunities God continually gives us to serve Him.

God is faithful and He desperately desires to have a relationship with each one of us.  Please be in prayer about whether God might be calling you to attend our next Spiritual Disciplines Retreat in February.
