God is always sending us people; people who want to engage in God’s mission in this neighborhood. This past year God blessed us with some incredible new partners and it didn’t take long at all for them to get involved, many of them in significant ways.
Lori Brookshire is planning and executing our Wednesday meals for KidsHOPE and doing an amazing job. If you want a good meal on Wednesday, just come to church!
Mark and Charlotte Stone are working in the pantry and they are group leaders in our KidsHOPE children’s classes. My son is in their group and I can attest, they are gifted and thoughtful in their leadership.
Aaron and Allison Sims are driving the van each Wednesday to the Times Square on the Hill Apartments to pick up, at times, an overflowing van full of refugee children and bring them to church. I have been on that van, it’s not easy, but Aaron and Allison do it with love and compassion and grace.
Donna Moore learned in our Next Steps class that help was needed on Tuesday in our pantry and tutoring ministries. The following Tuesday she was interviewing pantry guests and tutoring kids.
Jeff and Wendy Davis are new partners and are already making a huge impact in our youth ministry. They are facilitating groups on Wednesday night and leading several events in LTC (Leadership Training for Christ).
I could list many others that have jumped right in and partnered with God in what He is doing at this church and in the surrounding community. And yet, there is more to do. We need a couple more interviewers in our pantry ministry. We need someone to teach on Tuesday mornings in our ABODE ministry. We have a growing ministry to the homeless that could use more servants. We need people to mentor refugee families. God has given us so many good ways to be with Him in service to others. If you are new or maybe you’ve been here a long time, decades even, but have found yourself disengaged from God’s mission, we have a ministry for you. We have opportunities for you to be blessed as you bless others. We were never meant to live disengaged.
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” – Ephesians 2:10
